In this class, students are introduced to French Atelier training to draw the human portrait. The method of sight size, a fundamental scale system, is used to reproduce portraits accurately. Students work from a live model focusing on outline, proportion, shadow, shape, and value. In this course, students will learn portrait drawing fundamentals. Emphasis will be placed on facial proportions, various views, building a likeness, and more. Half of the class will include drawing from a live model in various dry and wet media. The second half of the course will involve working from photo-reference with precision ink tools like micron pens or crow-quill pens. Optional personal assignments will be suggested throughout the term as well. Learning outcomes include learning to draw the portrait from life and photos and build mileage in numerous drawing mediums.

What are the stories you need to tell? Comics can precisely frame visual narratives, quickly deliver complex information, and resonate with readers emotionally connecting people of all ages, nationalities, and economic backgrounds. Students will learn about story structure, page composition, pacing, materials and techniques, character design, environmental drawing, and production. It is not a drawing class, but a class where you will work within your preferred style and learn how to create visual narratives. The work produced over the term will be put into a comic anthology that we will self-publish at the term's end. This class is recommended for intermediate to advanced students.

This course is designed for those who have a foundation in drawing but want to hone their technical abilities with colored pencils. We will experiment with multiple kinds of paper/drawing surfaces and explore everything from quick sketches, toned paper drawings to full color renderings. The majority of exercises/projects will utilize observational drawing skills. You'll get personalized feedback and help with any stumbling blocks along the way. Intro to Figure Drawing is a comprehensive course designed to introduce students to the fundamental principles and techniques of drawing the human figure. This course is suitable for beginners and intermediate artists who wish to develop their skills in capturing the human form accurately and expressively. The classes will be centered around working from a live model. Throughout the course, students will explore various aspects of figure drawing, including anatomy, proportion, gesture, and form. They will learn to observe and analyze the human body, understanding its underlying structure and how it moves. Students will also study the principles of light and shadow, enabling them to create a range of values that create the illusion of form.
