ArtBound! In-School Artist Residencies
About ArtBound! In-School Artist Residencies
An artist residency program offered to 3rd through 8th grade students attending Title 1 campuses with minimal visual arts instruction. Our program emphasizes hands-on creative projects that utilize the arts to develop students’ social-emotional learning skills that align with broader goals of the state curriculum.
Professional teaching artists visit sites eight to ten times per semester, ideally engaging an entire grade level through multiple one hour workshops.
Classroom teachers participate in the planning process to ensure that the residencies support and enhance their classroom curriculum.
Art League provides all the necessary art supplies and tools.
Residencies often conclude with a celebratory event, which can look like an informal showing of student artwork on campus, a mural unveiling, or contributing to an already established school-wide festival. The Art League teaching artist collaborates with the campus staff to prepare and showcase students’ artistic achievements.
Since 2008, over 8,100 elementary students in H.I.S.D. have received visual arts instruction through the ArtBound! program that would otherwise not have access.
