About

The Art League School offers adults of all backgrounds and skill levels a range of lifelong learning opportunities in arts education. Established in 1968, it currently serves over 1,200 students each year through studio art classes and workshops led by professional artist instructors. These courses are offered both online and in three fully equipped studio spaces, covering a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, ceramics, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, and jewelry. To ensure personalized attention and accommodate different levels of expertise, courses maintain limited class sizes. In addition, students have access to exhibitions, lectures, public programs, and artist talks throughout the year to further their artistic training.

Starting in 2022, ALH initiated a multi-year endeavor to redefine the Art League School's role in promoting radical imagination, reducing economic barriers to art education, and positively impacting society through the arts. The 2022-23 academic year marks the beginning of a pilot phase, where new and revitalized programming will gradually be introduced.

ALH School Updates

Since 2019, we have worked diligently to provide high-quality education and support for our students without increasing tuition. However, to continue to fulfill our mission and adapt to rising costs, we find it necessary to implement a modest tuition increase. This change is essential for several reasons:

  • Better Pay for Teaching Artists: By increasing tuition, we can offer competitive compensation to our talented teaching artists, ensuring we attract and retain the best educators for our students.

  • Inflation Costs: Like many organizations, we face rising operational costs due to inflation. Adjusting tuition helps us manage these expenses without compromising the quality of our programs.

  • Building Maintenance: The upkeep of our facilities is crucial for providing a safe and inspiring learning environment. This increase will enable us to perform necessary maintenance and improvements.

  • Increased Administrative Capacity: Enhancing our ability to effectively manage and support our staff and programs.

Starting June 1, 2024 the new tuition rates will be as follows:

  • Class Tuition: Class tuition will be increased to $500 for members and $535 for the public (note: this does not include material, lab, or additional model fees).

  • Workshop Tuition: Workshop tuition will begin at $105 for members and $140 for the public.

We understand that any increase can be challenging, and we are committed to supporting our community through this transition. 

We are excited to continue offering our Flexible Access program, which offers a selection of classes per semester at a pay what you can rate. The Flexible Access model was established as part of ALH’s strategic plan goals to help increase the diversity and accessibility of our art education programs and has been extremely popular.
