Utilizing screen printing, students will explore the possibilities of repetition, color, and texture to create printed fabrics and complex compositions. Students will learn the basics of screen printing on fabric, mixing pigments, and pattern design. The class will explore a variety of stencil methods that don't require a dark room or exposure unit, including contact paper and wax crayon. Techniques learned can be used to create fabrics for clothing, home goods, artwork, collage, and more.

“Linocut”, also known as linoleum block printing, has a rich history over the last century and remains an extremely versatile and popular technique for artists today. This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of relief printmaking, covering several ways to utilize linoleum blocks including reduction printing and jigsaw printing. Students will use Art League’s etching press to create editions of prints in black and white and full color, and will also learn how to ink their blocks creatively to create effects and monoprints.

No prior printmaking experience is necessary. Oil-based printing inks and newsprint will be provided for the class.
