Oil pastel is a relatively new medium dated from the early 20 century. It is a very versatile and dynamic material that combines drawings and painting properties. An easy to control, very flexible to mix with medium, makes oil pastels ideal for working on any surface. Over the course of 7 weeks, students will discover exciting techniques and they will learn to combine oil pastels with other mediums such as acrylic and watercolor. This class also covers a variety of exercises to guide students to create effective compositions following the elements and principles of art. Some assignments are inspired by impressionist and post-impressionist artists' approaches to painting.
This class is a great fit for anyone looking to transition between drawing to painting or experienced artists looking to learn about the endless applications of oil pastels. All levels are welcome.

In this mixed media drawing course, students will find new appreciation in the myriad of environments they occupy. Students will source imagery from their personal photographs and use a variety of drawing tools to create compelling compositions. Furthermore, we will layer drawing skills with a mixed media approach, collaging in different textures of papers, fabrics, and natural materials, to enliven the final works.

Fabric and textile have a tie to all of us: from family heirlooms that hold nostalgic meaning to scraps of hot pink fur from Joann’s art supply. In this class, students will focus on creating mixed media, representational collages while using their own photos as a point of inspiration. We follow and learn about contemporary collage artists, and work to improve use of color theory, build dynamic compositions, and use good craftsmanship with collage techniques. This will be a fun and creative way to explore a range of materials, take chances in the studio, and preserve our memories from this time.

Discover the harmony of body, mind and creativity in this unique class combining the art of ink painting, mindfulness practices and yoga. Begin with guided meditation, gentle yoga movements and breath-work. Learn to ground yourself in the present moment and achieve a calm and open state, setting the stage for your creative flow. Next, transition into an introduction of ink painting focusing on preparation, technique and brushwork. We will be focusing on a variety of subject matter including nature and subjective themes. We will learn traditional and innovative ink painting styles suitable for all levels of painters.

This workshop offers a foundation in stop-motion as a traditional animation technique and is designed to provide an understanding of animation as an art form of personal expression. We will briefly explore flipbook, claymation, and cut-out animation. Through in-class exercises and demonstrations, you will learn how to create a short animation and how to record and produce your own foley sound.
For this class, you will only need a smartphone that is compatible with the Stop Motion Studio app. The instructor will provide all other supplies. For the second day of class, you will need to bring assorted found objects.

This workshop will focus on the basic fundamentals of using the airbrush as a painting tool/medium. Students will learn basic rendering in black and white, how to use their airbrushes to create marks, textures and illusions, and how to properly maintain and clean their tools. Limited supplies (i.e. the air compressor) might be shared.
