Established in 1953 and founded in 1948 and one of Houston's longest operating non-profit visual arts organizations and was the first alternative art space in Texas. Art League Houston was created to promote public appreciation of and interst in the visual arts. During the past 58 years Art League Houston has provided over 750 exhibtions to the Houston community, showcasing the work of nearly 22,000 artists and over 29,000 students have recieved instruction at the Art League school. Your support helps us continue to bring quality shows, provide artist stipends, expand programming, support the arts in Houston, and sustain daily operating costs.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING GROUP

The Plein-Air Painting Group is an informal, loosely knit gathering for drawing and painting on location---outdoors. The group is limited to Art League members who must assume their own liability. The Art League may require all participants to sign a letter of waiver. Artists working in all media are welcome. Each artist must provide his own materials, transportation, sun-block, insect repellant, hat, etc. There is no instructor; however the coordinator may offer helpful suggestions. No fee is involved at this time.

Objectives: develop and enhance painterliness/ make direct responses to location/give considerations to natural lighting, natural forms, and color/strive to see the beauty in the commonplace and familiar/complement formal studio work.

Day & Time:third Saturday of each month, afternoons, approx. 3pm

Life Drawing Lab
A live model is provided weekly for Art League Houston Members to draw, sketch or paint. The cost is only $10 for a (3) hour session, this money goes directly to pay the model.
